LIPGLOSS

an indie dance party

INDIE AS FUCK SINCE 2001

Lipgloss (est. 2001) is the USA's longest continuously running indie dance party. At almost 23 years filling the dance floor, founder DJ Boyhollow has thrown the Lipgloss party well over 1100 times, blending a unique mix of indie and other underground sounds. On any given night, one can expect indie rock & dance, New Wave, brit-pop, soul, French house, and the occasional guilty pleasure.

Village Voice’s Westword newspaper has awarded Lipgloss 25 “Best of Denver” awards over the years, including best Club-Night in Denver a record 12 times, including the last time that award was given in 2022. Other awards have included multiple 5280 Magazine’s Best Club Night in Denver & ABC-Channel 7's A-List Award. Lipgloss has received mentions in magazines such as Spin, NME, Under the Radar and Magnet, and has a loyal following that rivals those of indie club-nights in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and San Francisco.

Lipgloss was “indie sleaze” before that was a term bandied about by a new generation discovering the best music of the century. Bands like Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Editors, Interpol, Cut Copy, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Faint, The Bravery and others have dropped into the party more than once after a show in Denver.

Lipgloss has hosted a veritable “Who’s Who” of notable and legendary guest DJs: MGMT, Win Butler (Arcade Fire), Cut Copy, The Faint, Neon Indian, Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Carlos D. and Sam Fogarino (Interpol), Marky Ramone, Luke Jenner (The Rapture), Andy Rourke & Mike Joyce (the Smiths), Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets/Tones On Tail), Casey Spooner of Fischerspooner, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundystem), Mani (The Stone Roses/Primal Scream), Tim Burgess (The Charlatans), Gina Schock and Jane Wiedlin (Go-Go’s), Andrew W.K., The Presets, Junior Boys, BAIO (Vampire Weekend), The Bravery, The Juan Maclean, Tommy Sunshine, The Faint, Treasure Fingers and numerous others.

Lipgloss founder DJ Boyhollow has opened for acts like New Order, LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, The Church, Hot Chip, Girl Talk, The Sounds, The Cars, Ladytron, The Breeders, The Cult, and many more.

Currently, Lipgloss takes place at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox in Denver, CO.
